Last Thursday I went on a night hike at the Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary. The moonlight lit the landscape more brightly than you might expect. It was a clear night and pretty cold; we didn't see any animals, but it was still a lovely walk. We saw a beaver's lodge and area where they had created something of a dam with reeds (kind of like gardening).

Saturday night I sat next to a guy at the bar who told me, among other things, the he traps beavers (as a hobby). Apparently farmers ask him to do so. I asked him if he was going to pay for his meal with beaver skins thrown on the bar and we laughed but I was half serious. What is this, the fucking pioneer days?

Then I went home and watch Transformers: Dark of the Moon, which is one of the funnier comedies I've seen in a while. It kept having surprise actors like Frances McDormand and Alan Tudyk with a German accent, and Ken Jeong. Which reminds me, I should probably start a Community rewatch since the fourth season is back on Thursday night next week.

It has been too too long since I posted. Part of that is all the time I spend playing Glitch. Then there's work, which has also meant some travel. Work goes well overall. Last week I got a couple of unexpected kudos, always good to hear.

Then there's going out with friends to see The Hunger Games (so good!) or to celebrate [personal profile] imaginarycircus's writing achievements or the Purim party. Doing some reading (mostly mysteries lately, if you are on GoodReads you can find me here).

Here are some recent pictures I wanted to share under the cut )

I'm still watching Castle and Hawaii Five-0. Downton Abbey was great, a little soapy but the Christmas special improved. Once Upon a Time so far has been quite good, though I don't know how long I will be able to put up with unresolved storylines. And tonight I am excited to watch Mad Men!

So that's the update. I try to keep up with DW/LJ but if I've missed any news please let me know!

P.S. Cross-posted to LJ but I don't want the two journals linked. Sorry for the duplication!

I didn't watch them when they aired so I can't exactly say I miss Firefly or Angel, though I wish they'd each gotten another season or two.

What I do miss is Northern Exposure (the early seasons). It had interesting characters that weren't a bunch of teen/twenty-something perfect teeth stereotypes, strong writing and a good ensemble cast.
